Choosing a duty holster
Retention level. Safariland names the level in the product title. ALS alone is an automatic locking system released by the thumb; ALS with SLS adds a rotating hood for a second, deliberate release. Agencies that specify Level III are specifying ALS/SLS. Blackhawk and Gould & Goodrich duty models state their retention system in the listing.
Light-bearing and optic-cut. A duty holster for a pistol with a weapon light is a different SKU from the same pistol without it, and an optic-cut (RDS) model is different again. The 6360RDS for the Springfield Echelon with light is the most-ordered duty holster here because it is the exact combination that department bought. Order the combination, not the family.
Ride and mount. Mid-ride sits the pistol at the belt; low-ride and drop adapters lower it to clear outer armor carriers and vehicle seats; leg shrouds move it to the thigh. Many Safariland duty holsters ship with a belt loop but not a drop; check the included-hardware line and add a drop adapter, UBL or shroud as needed.
Finish. Plain, basketweave and hi-gloss finishes exist so the holster matches the belt and cases. Standardize the finish across the duty belt at the same time.
Less-lethal. Taser 7 and X26-series holsters are in this grid, right and left hand, for cross-draw placement opposite the sidearm.
