Handheld
Handheld duty lights for patrol, corrections, fire and EMS: rechargeable full-size lights with chargers, CR123 and AA tactical lights, compact and EDC lights, right-angle and intrinsically safe lights for fire and hazmat, penlights, and the Maglite D-cell line. Streamlight, Maglite, Nightstick, SureFire, Fenix, Pelican, Nite-Ize and QUIQLITE.
Decide the power source first, then the size class. Rechargeable lights (Streamlight Stinger and Strion, Maglite ML-series, Nightstick) need a charger per officer or per vehicle and cost less over a career. CR123 and AA lights (Streamlight ProTac, SureFire, Fenix, Maglite) need no charger and consume cells, which live under Batteries. Pistol and long-gun lights are a separate section, Weapon-Mounted; helmet and cap lights are Specialty & Wearable; bulbs, switches and chargers are Parts & Accessories.

Choosing a handheld duty light
Rechargeable full-size. The patrol standard. The Streamlight Stinger 2020 and Strion 2020 families come with AC and 12V DC charge options; order the charger base that matches the vehicle. The Maglite ML150LR is the rechargeable version of the D-cell form factor. Nightstick's dual-switch rechargeables are the budget-conscious option in the same class.
Disposable-cell tactical. Lighter, no charger infrastructure, bulk-cell cost. Streamlight ProTac (the ProTac HL-X runs CR123 or a USB-rechargeable pack), SureFire 6PX, E2D Defender and EDC series, Fenix PD and E series, Pelican 2360 and 2370. Standardize the cell type across the fleet.
D-cell and AA. The Maglite 3 D-cell is the most-ordered handheld on this site; ML300L is the LED version. Mini Maglite AA and AAA, Streamlight Dualie and Pelican 1920 cover the small end. Cheap to issue, easy to replace.
Fire, EMS and hazmat. Right-angle lights clip to turnout gear and leave both hands free: Streamlight Survivor (alkaline or rechargeable), Pelican 3410 right angle, and the Nightstick Intrant series, which carries an intrinsically-safe rating stated on the listing. Penlights and the QUIQLITE clip lights are the EMS pocket items.
What to compare. Lumens and beam distance as the manufacturer states them, run time at the setting you will actually use, switch type (tail cap vs. body), charging method (cradle vs. USB-C), and the belt holder it fits under Light Holders.
Procurement notes
Streamlight, SureFire and Nightstick sell under manufacturer pricing policies; the price shown is the price for every buyer and we do not discount these brands. For a fleet light with chargers per vehicle, request a quote with the count and the vehicle charging voltage, and we will return one quote with lead time. Brand pages: Streamlight, Maglite, Nightstick, SureFire, Fenix, Pelican.
