Choosing a weapon light

Full-size pistol lights. The Streamlight TLR-1 HL and SureFire X300U are the two lights most duty holsters are cut for; the Nightstick full-size handgun light is the third. Light-bearing holster listings name which of these they fit. TLR-2 HL and the X400 add a laser to the same footprint.

Compact and sub-compact. TLR-7 and TLR-8 (with laser) for compact rails; the TLR-6 clamps to the trigger guard of sub-compacts without a rail (Glock 26/27, 42/43, 1911 and others, each a separate SKU). Compact lights have their own holster cuts; check before ordering.

Long guns and shotguns. SureFire Scout Light Pro and Mini Scout for rifles (white and infrared), the Nightstick long-gun light kit with remote switch, and Nightstick shotgun forend lights that replace the pump on Remington 870 and Mossberg 500/590, with or without laser.

Laser. Green is easier to see in daylight; red is cheaper and runs longer. Policy and training decide whether a laser is issued at all; if it is, order the laser version of the same light family so the holster cut does not change.

Cells. CR123 is the standard; some models take rechargeable packs. Standardize with the handheld fleet so one cell covers both.

Procurement notes

A weapon-light program is a holster program: budget one light and one holster per officer, in the right hand, and quote them together. Request a quote with the pistol model, light choice, optic yes/no and hand split and we will return the pairs with lead time.
