Restraints

Restraints for patrol, corrections, transport and court security: chain, hinged and lever-lock handcuffs, leg irons and transport chains, disposable restraints for mass-arrest and surge, and the keys and cuff tools that keep a restraint program running. Brands carried include Peerless, Smith & Wesson, ASP, Hiatt, Monadnock, UZI and ZAK Tool.

Three decisions pick the product. Cuff style, which is chain for routine patrol and hinged or rigid where control of the subject matters more than speed. Lock mechanism, which is standard double-lock or lever-lock. Finish and identification, which is nickel, black, or color-coded for cuff accountability. Each section answers one of them: Handcuffs, Leg Irons & Transport, and Keys & Accessories.

How agencies choose restraints

Chain vs. hinged vs. rigid. Chain cuffs are the fastest to apply and the most forgiving on a moving subject, which is why they remain the patrol default. Hinged cuffs limit wrist rotation and are the usual choice for transport and corrections. Rigid cuffs give the most control and the least flexibility; they are a specialty issue, not a fleet item.

Lock mechanism. Every cuff here double-locks. The difference is how. Standard models double-lock with the key or a pin; lever-lock models double-lock with a thumb lever, which is why the Smith & Wesson Model 100 M&P Lever Lock is the most-ordered restraint on this site. Pick one mechanism for a fleet so training and inspection stay uniform.

Keys. Peerless, Smith & Wesson, ASP and Hiatt cuffs all take the standard handcuff key, so mixing brands inside an agency does not create a key problem. Buy keys in bulk under Keys & Accessories; ZAK Tool cuff keys and pocket tools live there too.

Disposable restraints. Single-use restraints such as the Spare Cuff are the answer for crowd events, surge capacity and anywhere a steel cuff will not come back. Stock them by the case, not the pair.

Transport. Leg irons, waist chains and transport kits are under Leg Irons & Transport. Match the chain length to the vehicle and the holding-area procedure, not the catalog default.

Procurement notes

Restraints are a standardize-once item. Pick the model, finish and lock style, record the key type, and reorder the same SKU. For department quantities, request a quote and we will spec the set, confirm lead time and provide the W-9 and vendor forms. Purchase orders and Net 30 are available to agencies on approval.
